TDSAT cancels penalty of Rs 787.8 million on Reliance Telecom
The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has cancelled the penalty of Rs 787.8 million imposed on Reliance Telecom for failing to meet the customer verification norms in Assam circle. The penalty was put on the telecom operator by the Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cell of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
The TERM cell in Assam for DoT treated 3,950 customer acquisition forms (CAFs) submitted by Reliance Telecom as noncompliant in Assam circle.
In 2010, DoT had issued guidelines for the mobile subscribers to fill the CAFs and submit it to their respective mobile operator, which in turn will submit the form to the local TERM cell of DoT. Also, as per the guidelines, the customers have to submit specified documents towards the proof of identity and address.
